WHY is a leading advocate for innovative, community-based solutions to hunger and poverty. WHY challenges society to confront these problems by advancing models that create self-reliance, economic justice, and equal access to nutritious and affordable food. WHY envisions a world without hunger and poverty. If we can shift the prevailing viewpoint on why hunger and poverty exist and get to the root causes, then we can influence the policymakers and put an end to this human tragedy.
About 49 million Americans – including 17 million children - are hungry. With 25 million people relying on soup kitchens, food pantries, and food banks for food for themselves and their families, including 9 million children and 3 million seniors in the U.S.,WHY is working to fight hunger and help move people out of poverty. In addition, WHY works to help the more 1.02 billion people across the world who are hungry.
